Reasons for unfair
dismissal
Redundancy
On our main unfair dismissal page you will see the broad outline of
circumstances where an employer may or may not be criticised for
dismissing an employee.
Here we discuss "redundancy" which is considered
in certain circumstances an acceptable reason for dismissing an
employee.

Unfair dismissal -
Redundancy:
The employer must be fair and reasonable in
selecting who is to be chosen for redundancy.
One
of the most commonly used methods is "last in - first out" which is
generally regarded as being fair.
An employer cannot select an employee for
redundancy if their reasons for doing so relate to any of the unfair
dismissal exceptions discussed on our main page ie: pregnancy,
discrimination etc.
If you feel that you have been unfairly selected
for redundancy you may be entitled to compensation.
