Accidents with untraced drivers (hit & runs)
If
you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a road accident, the
chances are that the person driving the other car will be a genuine
member of the public and their car will be fully insured as required
by law.
There is however, a possibility that the person driving the other
car will in fact fail to stop or provide correct details to you
after the accident. These accidents are known sometimes as "hit and
runs".

Hit and run incidents
are a common occurrence in the UK. There are many thousands of
accidents involving spurious individuals who either provide bogus
information after an accident or simply drive away from the scene to
avoid their responsibilities.
Whilst this adds
insult to injury if the untraced driver was also responsible for
the accident - there is still a way you can secure rightful
compensation.
The MOTOR INSURERS
BUREAU (or MIB) is an organisation set up by the government to compensate
injured victims of accidents involving untraced motorists. This
bureau also deal with cases involving uninsured motorists and they
provide an outlet for individuals to make an accident claims in
these circumstances.
There are certain
restrictions in what can and cannot be claimed - for example there
are no property damage claims under the Untraced Drivers Agreement
that the MIB operate. (this is however soon to change).
It is
important that an MIB specialist solicitor deals with your claim to
ensure that you get the compensation you deserve. We have a panel of
such experts who can help you with your accident claim.
